The 2024 European Hansa Class Championships are scheduled to be held from September 14th to 21st 2024, hosted by the Royal Yacht Club Sneek.

Invited classes will be the Hansa 2.3, 303 singles and doubles and Liberty.

Event Schedule

Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14:
Participants are getting ready for the championships with registration and boat measurements. Sailors and teams from all over Europe are arriving, eager to join this prestigious event.

Sunday, September 15:
The excitement starts with a practice race, where participants explore the lake of Sneek. The day ends with the grand opening of the European Championships, marking the official start of the thrilling week.

Monday, September 16 to Saturday, September 21:
Get set for a week full of exciting races and impressive sailing performances. Each day brings new challenges as participants compete for the coveted championship title.

Social Event Schedule

Opening ceremony

Sunday, September 15 – 17.00

The Opening Ceremony is an event where the event will be formally opened by hoisting the Hansa class flag. It will also consist of a flag parade and three (short) speeches. We hope that it will be a ceremony to remember. The event will take place in front of the training centre at the northern end of the island starting at 17.00 hrs.

Viewing of a Skûtsje 

From Monday to Wednesday 10.00 – 15.00

The province of Fryslân is well known for its old freighter sailing ships from the early 20th century. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday such a sailing ship is present on the island. It is called a Skûtsje. You have the opportunity to visit the ship and come aboard. Unfortunately people in a wheelchair cannot go on board the ship. A sailor will tell you all the interesting facts and figures of the ship.

The event will take place in front of the restaurant “It Foarunder” on the southern end of the Island from 10.00 – 15.00 hrs.

Nations Night

Tuesday, September 17 – 19.00

During this evening every nation has the opportunity to bring one or two specific items from their home country. This can be something to eat, something to drink or something very cultural       (for  example wooden shoes as we wear in The Netherlands. Also known as clumps or ‘klompen’ in Dutch. For eating: Dutch cheese of course).

We also want to turn the wheel of fortune with prizes, coming from the EC organization but also from the countries if that is possible. The event will take place in the restaurant “It Foarunder’ at the southern end of the island starting at 19.00 hrs.

Informal evening with whiskey tasting

Wednesday, September 18 – 19.00

On Wednesday evening we want to have an informal evening where we share our personal favorite whiskey amongst each other. Our idea is that we bring a bottle of whiskey from home (or buy it in a local shop in Sneek), shortly explain to everyone why this is your favorite or special whiskey and everyone has the opportunity to taste a little bit of it.

Bring a bottle of whiskey if you want to participate. If you are not able to bring a bottle, no problem. Everyone is welcome at the event. The event will take place in the restaurant “It Foarunder’ at the southern end of the island starting at 19.00 hrs.

Viewing wheelchair sailing boat

Thursday and Friday from 10.00 – 15.00

During two days a specifically designed catamaran sailboat will be present on the island. For sailors in a wheelchair or sailors with other disabilities this catamaran gives you the opportunity to have a holiday on the water but… you are also able to sail this boat yourself. During those two day you can visit the boat, come aboard and have a tour around it.

The event will take place in front of the restaurant “It Foarunder” on the southern end of the Island on Thursday and Friday from 10.00 – 15.00 hrs.

Joint dinner

Thursday, September 19 – 19.00

We want to organize a joint dinner with all the sailors, assistants, coaches, jury and volunteers. During the dinner we would like to play some music from every participating country. The event will take place in the restaurant “It Foarunder” on the southern end of the Island starting at 19.00 hrs.

Closing ceremony & award ceremony

Saturday, September 21 – 19.00

The Closing Ceremony is an event where the event will be formally closed. The award ceremony will also take place where all the prize winners will receive their prize. We intend to have a VIP hand out the prizes.The event will take place in the restaurant “It Foarunder” on the southern end of the Island starting at 19.00 hrs.

• Rental of RIBs for coaches of foreign teams can be arranged through Ron Meijer Marine Services. Several 5 meter RIB’s are available with a Yamaha 50 hp engine.
