Change of Date

The IHCA and Organising Authority for the 2026 Hansa Class European Championships wish to advise of a change of date. The event will now take place from September 13th to 19th at BISC Barcelona. The change of date came about due to a lack of accessible and affordable flights and accommodation during the originally scheduled week of the Championships, mainly due to a medical conference being held at the same time with over 20,000 expected attendees. We understand that some sailors and teams will have already secured accommodation, and we apologize for any inconvenience this date change causes. By moving the Championships back by a week should ensure that all sailors who wish to attend will now have the opportunity to do so. Race documents are now being finalised and will be posted to this website.

BISC Sailing Events Manager, Carlos Motta, issued this statement to competitors – “Welcome to our city!! We are very excited to announce the organization of the 2026 European Championship – Kakapo Open Race at the Barcelona International Sailing Center.

At the center, we are really focused on Para Inclusive Sailing, with a specific training program in Hansa 303 Class, that is attracting a lot of new sailors, and with the organization of the Kakapo Open Race, that will see her second edition this year.

Barcelona is known for its excellent weather and sailing conditions—warm, reliable winds and calm waters, which should make for great racing. It will be a fantastic opportunity for competitive sailors all around the world.

Plus, when you’re not on the water, there’s so much to explore in the city. You can check out iconic landmarks like the Sagrada Familia, stroll down Las Ramblas, or enjoy some delicious tapas at one of the many fantastic restaurants. With the facilities at the sailing center, it should be a top-tier experience all around.”
